Water and Wastewater System Improvements Project
According to Brad Simons, our consulting contractor, Project Manager with Olsson and Associates, the following report was given at our recent March Board meeting.
“Construction continues on the District's Water and Wastewater System Improvements project.
The Skyview Way Waterline replacement project was completed in November of 2010.
The replacement of the Wagon Wheel Lift Station was put into service on March 17th.
The construction of 20,000 feet of force main to serve Casita Park is nearly complete, with only a couple of valves left to be installed.
Reseeding of the disturbed areas along County Road T is to begin on March 21.
The new Casita Park Lift Station is expected to be operational before the end of March.
The majority of construction over the next couple of months will occur at the site of Well 18 (our main source well). The new building has been erected and work continues to complete the interior finishes. The majority of the Well 18 yard piping has been completed. Upcoming activities at the Well 18 site will include cleaning and disinfecting the tank, installation of the new well pumps and installation of the new booster pumps. Finally, work on the Automation and Telemetry improvements will increase with the completion of the other project components. Overall, the District's Water and Wastewater System Improvements project is approximately 80 percent complete.”
Thanks again to the Baca community for having the foresight to support the mill levy and our dedicated staff and consultants that made all of this implementation possible.
We also had a Board Retreat earlier in the year and reviewed our internal infrastructure accomplishments for 2010, they are as follows:
- Discussions of future water supply with US Fish and Wildlife Service
- Re-financing/consolidation of debt (better overall 30-year rate of 4.8 %)
- Capital projects initiated-(see above)
- EQR (Equity of rate/payment scale established throughout the whole District system).
- Employee handbook adopted
- Rules and regulations in process
- GIS mapping-boundaries and infrastructure baseline mapped
- Clean audit-a good task to have completed.
- Continual communications, outreach & education with the public, including Seminar with Water Attorney’s Marcus Locke and Kendall Burgemeister.
- Purchase of a Service truck
- Safety manual and procedures in place
- Cross training- knowledge of each other’s responsibilities to be able to cover for each other.
- Testing/training-Employees receiving their Operators License & staff certifications
- Board Elections for 2010
- Availability of Service (AOS) fee analyzed and restructured
It looks like 2011 will continue to remain productive, may we all look forward to more precipitation and a creative Spring.
